Height: 80 mm

Virgin in prayer (possibly from an Annunciation scene).

Berliner 1926: Germany, dated 1527, with signature of Daniel Hofer on the underside.


Attribution
Daniel Hopfer (b. 1470, d. 1536)

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding and polychromy (in 1926): gold (along the hems), red (neck and face).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: hands. Cloak chipped.
Hole in the back of the Virgin's head.

Comments
Inscription on the underside: signature 'D H 1527'.

Provenance
Acquired in 1866 by the Museum.
