Reverse
Flat with scoring and traces of glue. Two recesses along the the inner edges of the higher and lower plaques to suggest the existence of hinges (though not functional).

Object Condition
Some of the edges of the panels are irregular (visible from the back) and extra pieces of ivory have been used in some cases to rectify this irregularity.

Comments
Each register is carved on a separate piece of ivory: the diptych is thus made of 6 pieces of ivory.

Provenance
Collection of Sir Julius Wernher (d. 1912), Bath House, London; on loan to English Heritage and displayed at Ranger's House since 2002.
