Back turned with a depression for mirror. Screw thread for pendant.
Labelled: 'Chefs d'oeuvre de l'art français / 1937' and 'Louvre 139'.
Inscriptions in ink: 'A. 66', 'Revoil 194'. In pencil: 'no. 139'.

Comments
This case is very similar to an ivory in the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore (Koechlin (1924) number 1114).

Provenance
Collection of Pierre Révoil, Lyon (no. 892); acquired from him in 1828 by the Musée du Louvre; on loan to the Musée de Cluny-Musée national du Moyen Âge since 1948, renewed by arrêté of 10 July 1986.
