Ivory

Height: 89 mm
Width: 50 mm
Depth: 5 mm

Crucifixion; Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist kneeling in prayer; Longinus piercing Christ's side; Stephaton giving Christ vinegar; Stephaton holding a bucket; onlookers on horseback; soldiers with winged hats; rugged cross; sun and moon.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Chiesi 2011: Northern France or England, last quarter of the 14th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy (?): red on the edges.

Reverse
Reverse divided into 5 compartments, the central one being circular. This probably indicates that this panel originally was part of a set of writing tablets.

Provenance
Laforge collection, Lyon (1867, no. 488). Carrand collection: bequeathed by Louis Carrand (d. 1888) to the Museo del Bargello in 1888.
