Seated Virgin and Child; Christ seated on the Virgin's right knee; musician angels (string instrument and bell?); open book; interior with three windows; putti on columns; mask; garlands.

Richter 2003: Netherlandish, c. 1520/30.
Museum's opinion 2012: South Netherlandish, early 16th century.

Unknown

Reverse
Curved. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost. Pencil inscription: '98'.

Object Condition
Worn. Two central holes in the upper part of the piece. Chips in rim.
Missing: finial and foliated decoration along the upper edge of the pax.
The piece has been cleaned excessively.

Provenance
Osterwald collection, Cologne; collection of Dr. Peter Wings, Aachen; his bequest to the Museum in 1893.
