Flat and smooth. Recessed along three edges (except the upper edge) to accommodate the other sides of the casket.
Object Condition
Holes for the missing fittings, showing traces of rust and oxidation.
Some holes are plugged with ivory.
A new strip of ivory reinforces the back of the two central scenes of panel 1.
Repair to the left edge and lower edge of panel 2. Right edge and lower edge of panel 3 repaired with strips of ivory.
Provenance
Collection of John Francis Mallett (bought from Brimo de Laroussilhe, Paris); his bequest to the Museum in 1947; Department of Western Art (WA1947.191.212); transferred to the Department of Antiquities in May 2008.
