Castle of Love. Courting couples (meeting of lovers); two couples conversing; couple making a wreath; lady chucking a bearded man under the chin; man at a window; battlements; turrets.
Masks in the spandrels. Foliated corner terminals.

Reverse
Back turned with a depression for (missing) mirror.

Object Condition
Vertical crack and several minor cracks. Two holes (top and left side).
Corner terminals chipped.

Provenance
Collection of Prince Petr Soltykoff (b. c. 1801, d. 1889): his sale, Paris, Drouot, 8-10, 15-17, 22-24, 29 April and 1 May 1861, lot 358 (purchased by Jacob). Collection of Lénard or Liénard (?), Paris, before 1878; collection of Baron Alexander von Stieglitz (b. 1814, d. 1884) (no. 133); acquired by the Stieglitz Museum of Applied Arts in 1878; transferred to the Hermitage in 1924.
