Height: 133mm
Width: 60mm

Register 1: Coronation of the Virgin; angel crowning the Virgin; two kneeling angels holding candlesticks; clouds.
Register 2: Seated Virgin and Child; Christ seated on the Virgin's right knee; Virgin holding Christ with both hands.

Williamson and Davies 2014: Italian (Tuscan), early 14th century.


Attribution
Unknown

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on either side. Traces of three additional hinges on the left side (probably caused by later repairs).

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy: red (inside of the Virgin's veil).

Reverse
Bevelled and smooth.

Object Condition
Missing: arms and hands of the angel crowning the Virgin; candles; right hand of Christ in the lower register; parts of the left border.
Very worn.
The three additional slots on the left side were probably caused by later repairs to attach the wing (Williamson and Davies 2014).
Crosshatching on the top edge and underside.

Provenance
Collection of Dr W. L. Hildburgh: initially on loan to the Museum, then given by him to the Museum in 1949.
